You’ve got questions. We’ve got answers.
What does the name “Block” mean?
The name Block Headwear pays homage to the centuries-old art of hatmaking, where material is molded and steamed around a piece of wood – a “block” – to give the hat its shape. It also plays off the idea of a “block” being the place where you’re from and how that influences your style.
How long has Block Headwear been in business?
Block Headwear was created by Cuban-born designer Ciomi McCabe, who grew up in the hat business. Her father served as CFO at Kangol and she spent 15 years working for the brand herself. Through her tenure there she amassed an unparalleled network of contacts within the headwear industry, from design and merchandising to production and sales. Having the desire to start her own headwear business, Ciomi launched Block Headwear in May 2000 out of New York where she and the company are based. In March 2006 Concept One Accessories acquired Block Headwear where Ciomi remains Founder and Head Designer of the brand.
What’s with the New York attitude?
Put on a Block Headwear trilby and see if you don’t talk with more passion and purpose. Slide on one of our Ivy caps and instantly add some East Coast swagger to your step. What is it about Block Headwear that feels so “New York”? It’s not just the superior design and superb fit. Or the contemporary-yet-classic looks we serve up each season. It’s the confidence (bordering on cockiness) you feel when you’re wearing one. You can’t put a price on that. Good thing it’s free with every purchase.
